| New Jewish Boy Scout Troop Forms in Northern Virginia |
“For more than 20 years, we’ve sponsored Cub Scout Pack 1818 -- an active Jewish Cub Scout Pack serving boys from 1st through 5th grade. We felt it was time, and a logical move, to extend our sponsorship to Troop 1818 as well,” stated Bob Watts, Youth Liaison of the OT Men’s Club. Troop 1818 serves boys from 11 to 17 years old. Although Troop 1818 will be affiliated with Cub Scout Pack 1818, prior Cub Scout experience is not necessary. Troop 1818 will observe Shabbat, Jewish holidays and Jewish dietary laws. “The boys will have an incredible opportunity to develop important life skills and participate in a wide range of outdoor opportunities, including camping and hiking. Under adult supervision, the boys will plan and run their own activities,” noted Robert Book, Troop 1818 Scoutmaster and an Eagle Scout. “Scouting provides opportunities to develop leadership skills and initiative that are not generally available in school and other extracurricular activities.” Currently, Troop 1818 meets weekly at Congregation Olam Tikvah at 3800
Glenbrook Road in the Mantua area of Fairfax. Upcoming activities include
camping, hiking, first aid, and emergency preparedness. Contact: For inquires related to Troop 1818, please contact: For inquires related to Pack 1818, please contact: For inquires related to the Olam Tikvah Men’s Club, please contact: |
